Attitude?

Wednesday February 28, 2007
One thing that really bugs me is the shop employee with attitude. Most Bike shop employees really want to help you find not only what you're looking for but what will work best for you, and they are happy to explain to you why. But every once in a while you get the employee who is just way too cool and knows just way too much to waste their time helping little you.

Obviously this isn't OK. Don't let these bad seeds spoil your mountain biking pie. I suggest two options. One, simply ask for someone else to help you. Two, find another shop. The bike shop business is very competitive and there are plenty of shop owners who know the value of running a kind, friendly and helpful business.

Women have it even harder at bike shops. There’s a big gender barrier there. I know of one women who went in to get a good bike; she was bit over weight so they told her that she didn’t want a mountain bike, but a beach cruiser. The only reason I get good service is because over the years they’ve realized that I know biking. Otherwise, heaven help the unknown female walking into a bike store full of guys full of themselves.
