Definition: Bunny hopping is a technique in which a rider “hops” over obstacles, such as logs, rocks and curbs, by lifting first the front, then the rear wheel off the ground. Both wheels are lifted off the ground from the pedals (clipless pedals and toe cages make the move a bit easier), and neither wheel makes contact with the object in the trail. Bunny hopping is not essential to mountain biking, but proves beneficial as riders can clear objects without decreasing their speed.
