Guide Review - Mavic Crossmax SL Disc Wheelset - Review of the Mavic Crossmax SL Discs
That said, upgrading to the Mavic Crossmax SL Disc Wheelset accomplishes this quite well. Mavic has done an excellent job of making the Crossmax SL Discs both lightweight, and high performance.
We felt the Mavic Crossmax SL Disc Wheels were stiff, responsive and strong. However, They are not freeride wheels. They are designed for cross country riding, not big drops and jumps. Mavic makes plenty of other wheels designed for the rougher set.
The Mavic Crossmax SL Disc wheels are designed to work with the UST tubeless tire system as well as with tubes. We ran both without any difficulty. When running tubes there is no need for rim tape.
Although we did not experience any trouble, we have heard of some of the adjustable hubs having loosening issues. We did, however, have a compatibility issue with our Avid Juicy Seven Disc Brake caliper just barely contacting the spokes of our front wheel. Although the wheels were designed before the Juicy Sevens, we don't recommend running this combination.
Overall, these are great wheels if you can afford them.
