Description
Guide Review - Crank Brothers Mallet M PedalsI used the slightly heavier cousin of the Crank Brothers Mallet M pedals, the Mallet C's, for an entire season and loved them. I was happy to swap them out for the lighter (about 80g lighter) Crank Brothers Mallet M pedals. The Mallet M pedals are the exact same design as the Mallet C's but with a magnesium body.
I have been a big fan of the Crank brothers eggbeater style 4-sided clipless entry system for years now. When it comes to simplicity, mud performance, and consistency this system is hard to beat. The Mallet M pedals are Crank Brothers large platform, downhill style pedals. They have the same 4-sided entry system as all of their pedals but they also have a large magnesium platform for additional stability. This stability is particularly useful when you have to clip out, but can't clip in again immediately. The Crank Brothers Mallet M pedals come with two sets of carbon steel plates that mount to the front and rear of the pedal for protection as well as added grip. The second set are slightly taller for better shoe grip. If you normally ride with standard platform pedals, don't get these pedals thinking you will be able to just use them as platform pedals. While they do work pretty well with regular shoes, they are no substitute for good platforms. I have yet to see a platform style clipless pedal that performs as well as a platform with regular shoes. If you are looking for a platform style clipless pedal these are about as good as it gets. Related Guide PicksMountain Bike Buyers GuideComponent ReviewsMaintenance & Repair |
