Top 10 Mountain Bike Gifts - 10 Easy Mountain Bike Gifts

From , former About.com Guide

If you're having trouble finding a mountain bike gift for a friend or family, dont worry, there are a few things that every mountain biker needs and will appreciate.

You will surely find something on our list of top ten mountain bike gifts.

1. Mountain Bike Socks

You can never have too many mountain bike socks. Mountain bike socks are a great low cost mountain bike gift, stick with simple colors and graphics and you can't go wrong.

2. Mountain Bike Gloves

Mountain bike gloves are another great mountain bike gift you really can't have too many of. Gloves can get pretty nasty if you don't wash them.

I usually have at least three pair in circulation. This way, while I'm wearing one pair the others get tossed in with my laundry and I always have fresh gloves. I recommend full finger gloves.

3. Spare Inner Tubes

Mountain bikers get flats. We all need to carry spare tubes and we all use them from time to time.

Just check the side of the tire for its size and get the appropriately sized tube.

4. Bike Jerseys

Its nice to have a few mountain bike jerseys so you can always start your rides off fresh with a clean one.

Look for the kind of style jerseys your friend or family member already has and try to find a jersey that would fit in with the rest.

Another way to find a good Jersey for a mountain bike gift is to ask the person what kind of riding they do and then ask the sales staff at a bike shop to find a jersey for you that fits that riding style.

5. Trail Multi-Tool

Multi Tools are great mountain bike gifts. Every mountain biker should carry one with them in case they break down on the trail.

They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes but I always recommend multi-tools that have a built in chain tool as a minimum since broken chains are nearly impossible to fix without one.

6. Bike Shorts

Bike shorts, like Jerseys and gloves, can really get nasty if you don't have enough of them to cycle through your laundry.

In most cases, a pair of "baggy" style shorts will be most appreciated. These are the ones that look like normal shorts but have an inner liner made for cycling.

7. Hydration Pack

Hydration packs have gained much popularity over the conventional water bottle of the past. Not only do they make it easy to stay hydrated on the trail, they also provide a place for you to keep your snacks, tools, and pump.

I try to stay with minimal packs that have just enough space for what you need to carry with you but not enough to bring along the kitchen sink. Its nice to have some straps on the outside in case you need a little extra carrying capacity.

8. Air Supply

A bike pump is one of the first tools every mountain biker needs. Really, its nice to have both a floor pump at home as well as a pump for the trail. The floor pump with a pressure guage is nice around the house or in the car, and a light- weight mini-pump or pressurized air cartridge system is nice for the trail.

9. Upgrades

Mountain bike upgrades can be a difficult but appreciated mountain bike gift. There is always something that could be replaced on a mountain bike. Figuring out what to replace is the tricky part.

If you can find out what the person wants changed on their bike you can then ask at a bike shop what would be considered an upgrade from that part. Or just bring the bike in.

I wouldn't have a shop change any parts out Just buy the upgrade parts, give them as the gift, and have them put on later.

10. A New Bike

Its a lucky person who gets a mountain bike as a gift. However, it is important to make sure you get the right bike.

You will have to ask what kind of bike the person wants or at least what kind if riding they want to do. Then you may be able to find a bike for them.

I recommend giving a picture or other representation of a bike and then taking them shopping.
