Sponsored by the International Mountain Bike Association, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is celebrated on the first Saturday in October each year. Founded in 2004, the event is held in honor of Jack Doub, a teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who passed away in 2002.

Want to sponsor a Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event in your area? Make your day a success by downloading and printing one of IMBA’s informative poster templates, which can be easily tailored to your own event. Hang them for kids and parents to see in schools, bike shops and community centers.

Want to take it a step further? The IMBA website has a sample e-mail blast and press release that you can customize to let even more people know about the event.

Finally, the following are ten tips the IMBA offers to ensure a successful Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event:

  1. Save the date! TAKMD always takes place on the first Saturday in October.
  2. Find a child—and take them for a ride!
  3. Don’t forget to bring a bike and helmet. Talk to your local shop about donating kid-sized gear for your ride.
  4. Choose your ride—make sure it’s fun and safe!
  5. Talk to your local bike shop about getting involved in the event.
  6. Bring along food, water and essential bike tools during your ride.
  7. Ride safely and slowly!
  8. Don’t forget to have fun while you ride.
  9. Take lots of photos!
  10. Make it a tradition!
