The Bottom Line
We ran this ankle brace through nearly a full season of riding without as much as a hint of ankle injury. This was particularly good for me since an x-ray of one of my ankles has a close resemblance to the screw bins at a hardware store.

Guide Review - Velocity Ankle Brace - Review of the DonJoy Velocity Ankle Brace
These are serious ankle braces. We usually took them with us on high risk rides, and they do give you a little more confidence when things get a bit tricky. Our adventures with these ankle braces included several trips to Moab, Bootleg Canyon NV, lots of shuttle runs, Numerous DH races around the country, and plenty of lift accessed gravity assisted freeride days. These ankle braces supported us through plenty of get-offs to say the least.
The strapped and hinged construction of these ankle braces provides a huge amount of support. Although I'm sure somebody could do it, it's hard to imagine ever rolling an ankle with these on.
We really liked the quick in and out design of these ankle braces, but we did have a little trouble with the ends of the Velcro straps curling. Once the straps curled a little bit, they could catch on our shoes on the way in, this got just a little annoying.
Our set of Velocity Ankle braces held up real well through hours and hours of use. They even got soaked in mud a few times and cleaned up just fine.
Although they may be a little too much for everyday XC riding, these ankle braces provide as much ankle support as you could ask for in a convenient and comfortable design.
