Getting Started

Thursday March 8, 2007

If you're just getting started in mountain biking, there are a few things you can do to make it a little easier. The most important thing is start out for the right reasons and with the right attitude.

One sure fire way to stop mountain biking before you even get started is to let fear dominate your experience. You can't stop fear, and that's probably a good thing, but if you really want to get into mountain biking, don't let your fears get in the way.

The best way to deal with fear is to build confidence. Confidence comes at it's own pace, and you need to spend as much time on your bike in comfortable situations to let it build. Don't let yourself or others push you into situations that can bring your confidence down. In other words, ride at your own pace, and ride where you feel comfortable.

We've got a great guide to help you build your confidence before you even hit the dirt. Check out our Basic Skills Workshop and let us make your first rides as fun as you want them to be.
