Are You Riding by the Rules?

Saturday December 10, 2005
Mountain bikers love to talk about trail access. We would all love to have every trail available for us to ride, and as long as we're dreaming, we would love to have them all to ourselves.

Unfortunately, this is nowhere near the case. As mountain bikers, we face trail restrictions and closures all around the globe and we certainly have to share the trails with other users.

What most people don't know is that a good deal of the restrictions we face today are due to a minority of riders who are out there breaking the rules and ruining it for the rest of us.

Mountain bikers have a responsability to ride with respect for others and to obey the rules of the communities they ride in. Poaching a trail is not a reasonable way to fight trail restrictions. To keep our trails open and to ride with respect for others, we should all know and live by the IMBA Rules of the Trail, and for more trail acess, get involved in your community and support IMBA.
